14 candidates file for West Virginia governor's seat

Incumbent Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has 13 competitors in this year's gubernatorial election

CHARLESTON, West Virginia: Eight Republicans and six Democrats filed by the 5:00 p.m., February 12, 2011 deadline to run in the West Virginia 2011 gubernatorial election. The primary takes place on May 14.[1]

The leading Democrat in the race is incumbent Earl Ray Tomblin. Five of the six Democratic candidates, however, do currently hold higher offices in the state, including Natalie E. Tenant, the West Virginia Secretary of State.[1]

Of the eight Republicans, three hold higher officer, and three are former officer holders.[1]
