Lythgoe is in general support of the state Democratic platform; he notes the right to choose, student loan programs, equal pay, the Affordable Care Act, and infrastructure, among other things.[1]

Lythgoe ran in the 2012 election for Montana House of Representatives, District 77. Lythgoe ran unopposed in the June 5 primary election and was defeated by Kirk B. Wagoner (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3]
