Akron City Charter Amendment (November 2011)
This measure was approved

- NO 8,113 (18.19%)
This measure sought to amend the city charter so as to allow for public speaking during Council meetings. Residents had attempted to submit a petition about this issue, though not exactly the same, but it was thrown out due to technicalities. The City Council though still decided to place this issue on the ballot in replacement of the resident led petition due to the large support of residents for the chance to speak out at meetings. It was different from the proposed petition in that it did not ensure the public's "right to speak" at a meeting, but it is a step forward to allow for public opinions to be heard at meetings.
