MONTGOMERY, Alabama: According to Ballotpedia's list of ballot measures for Alabama, the state has had a rich history of ballot measures in the past 10 years. Alabama, which has no initiative process, must refer measures to the ballot by legislative referrals. In the past 10 years, not including 2010, Alabama has had five years with ballot measures.

The years in which Alabama has seen measures have been in 2008, 2007, 2006, 2003 and 2002. Article XVIII of the Alabama Constitution says that it takes a three-fifths (60%) vote of the Alabama State Legislature to qualify an amendment for the ballot.
