Alachua County is one of 67 counties in Florida. Gainesville is the county seat.

Alachua County has an estimated population of 243,574 as of 2010[1]. It is one of 20 charter counties in the state. It became a charter county in 1987.[2] Due to the influence of the University of Florida, Alachua County is one of the most reliably "blue" counties in Northern Florida, voting for the Democratic candidate for president in the past five elections.
