State Information
Local taxes are taxes that are passed at a borough, city, or township level in the state of Alaska. In the past decade Alaska has dropped from being one of the most taxed states in America to the least taxed state. In 1997, the state was taxing its residents at 12.8 percent, but after the creation of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline the tax rate plummeted to the current 6.5 percent.[1]

In 2008 the Prudhoe Bay and the Trans-Alaska Pipeline (TAPs) brought in $253.7 million dollars to be infused into local governments.[2]
