Schaeffer told the Daily Inter Lake that making the most out of tax revenues was a reason why he ran, suggesting that money be used on promoting tourism, job training in the medical field, and keeping up infrastructure; without such action, he said that tax money should be returned. He also expressed opposition to the state legislature's lack of response to the Affordable Healthcare act.[2]

Elections for the office of Montana House of Representatives will take place in 2014. A primary election took place June 3, 2014, and a general election will take place on November 4, 2014. The signature-filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 10, 2014; minor party and independent candidates had until June 2, 2014, to file. Catherine Henderson defeated Alex Schaeffer in the Democratic primary. Frank Garner defeated Ronalee Skees in the Republican primary. Incumbent Randy Brodehl (R) is running in District 9. Roxanna Brothers (D) filed to run, but was removed from the ballot before the primary.[3]

Schaeffer ran in the 2012 election for Montana House of Representatives, District 10. Schaeffer ran unopposed in the June 5 primary election and was defeated by incumbent Mark Blasdel (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[4][5]
