2014

Sanders' website highlighted the following campaign themes:[1]

As your next State Representative, my top priority will be economic development and the cultivation of entrepreneurship. Areas of focus:
  • Microloan Program; Small Business Administration. After attending the White House Briefing for Community Leaders, a meeting visited by President Barack Obama, I was excited to learn of the Microloan Program sponsored by the Small Business Administration. The Microloan Program provides loans to small businesses through eligible non-profit, or community or faith-based lenders.
  • The program fosters a way to build partnerships among business entities with a common goal: a high quality of life full of opportunity. The basic American credo… life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
  • Presently there is NOT an SBA-approved intermediary lender in District 55; only one in the metro-Atlanta area (East Atlanta); only five in the state of Georgia - -stretching across the state. There are plenty of small businesses in District 55 who could use additional capital, and plenty of wonderful ideas just waiting to come to life!
  • Develop a Youth Entrepreneurship Program to prepare the next generation of small business owners.
  • Create a District 55 Entrepreneurs Advisory Council as a resource for ideas and guidance on how the state can assist small businesses.[2]
