Baldwin City Sales Tax Adoptions (November 2009)
- The first proposition sought to renew a .50 percent retail sales tax throughout the city. The money generated from this tax will go towards helping fund public infrastructure improvements and repairs and also would go towards paying off the city bond that helped to pay for public repairs in the city.
- The second proposition sought to adopt a .25 percent sales tax in addition to the previous one, also on all retail sales in the city. The money generated from this tax will go towards paying for general quality of life improvements, such as library funds, park maintenance and recreational facility improvements.
It is expected that approximately 500 voters will turn out for this special election, the only one held in Douglas County this election period. more often cities are holding special election to help voters distinguish propositions. This election is estimated to cost the city around $6,000 and since it is not a big election the city will do all the counting by hand.
