The Ballot Project is a co-defendant in the case of Ralph Nader v. Democratic National Committee.

According to Stephen Conn, a retired professor from the University of Alaska, the Ballot Project was created in 2004 in order to deny Ralph Nader ballot access in as many states as possibly, ultimately forcing his name of 18 state ballots.
