Ballotpedia's Tuesday Count gains momentum, 97 measures certified
By Bailey Ludlam
As elections and petition drive deadlines near, measures schedule to appear on statewide ballots are adding up. According to Ballotpedia's Tuesday County 97 ballot measures in 31 states have been certified for one of the seven elections in 2010.
This week legislatures in Florida, Maine and Washington approved ballot measures for the November 2, 2010 statewide ballots; two of which related to bond issues. The Florida Class Size Amendment asks for voters to change the Florida Constitution's current "'maximum' class sizes to school-wide 'average' class sizes." However, unlike most ballot measures, the legislatively-referred constitutional amendment must be approved by at least 60 percent of voters on at the ballot in order to pass the measure. Maine's Jobs Bond Issue is a $57.8 million bond package for highway projects, harbor and energy projects. The Washington Public Works Bond Measure, although similar in dollar amount to the Maine bond, would direct funds for energy-efficiency renovations at schools around the state.
