Education

Vigil received her undergraduate degree from New Mexico State University, and her J.D. from the University of New Mexico.[3]

Career

Prior to joining the district court, Vigil worked in private practice and as assistant attorney general.[3]

Elections

2012

Vigil received 54.81 percent of the vote, winning an open seat on the New Mexico Supreme Court and defeating opponent Paul J. Kennedy who received 45.19 percent of the vote.[1]

This seat was formerly held by Patricio Serna; after Serna's retirement in August, Paul J. Kennedy was appointed to fill the seat until the general election. Kennedy was running to retain the seat after his appointment, so he and Vigil competed in the November election. Vigil had the perceived edge in the race, as she was a Democrat and a Republican has not been elected to New Mexico's high court since 1980.[4]
