A Bay Area Transportation Authority Levy Renewal measure was on the November 8, 2011 ballot in Leelanau and Grand Traverse Counties.

This measure was approved

  • YES 9,376 (75.46%)Approveda
  • NO 3,049 (24.54%)[1]

This measure sought to renew the current transportation levy which is set at a rate of .3454 mills for a further five years in order to continue to provide bus services in the transportation area. Those in favor noted the need for public transportation for residents who cannot afford cars. Opponents noted that BATA currently serves too many routes where there are few passengers so a better option would be reducing routes rather than ask for more money.[2] The Record Eagle had given its endorsement to this measure, noting that public transportation is important for any community to keep growing.[3]
