Bay City Street Levy Increase (November 2011)
This measure was defeated
- YES 1,673 (38.68%)
- NO 2,652 (61.32%)
This measure sought to increase the current street levy by a rate of $2 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a further five years in order to continue to pay for street repair and construction projects in the city. Though city officials had been stressing the need for repairs to the residential roads, some residents noted that any additional taxes would just put further strain on their already tight budgets. Other residents noted that while upgrades and repairs to roads would be beneficial, the additional taxes were not in their budgets. Though others noted that the repairs to the local streets would benefit all residents because good streets lead to better home prices.
