The City Council is made up of six members, five elected in wards and one elected at large, serving for four year terms.[9] The City Council serves as the legislative and executive branch of city governance. The Mayor has power to appoint the City Administrator pending City Council Confirmation. The City Administrator oversees day to day operation of the city.[10] The current Mayor is Rita Sanders.[11]

Administrative Officials

The City Administrator is Dan Berlowitz.[12] Mayor Sanders recently increase Berlowitz's salary $122,500 to $126,788,about 3.5%, citing job approval..[13]

Bellevue has paid out $400,000 in unused vacation in 2012 while attempting to cut down on long term costs. The changes were in response to former Police Chief John Stacey who resigned with $196,000 in unused vacation pay.[14]

Police and Fire Department employees are eligible for a pension.[15] Firefighters pay in 6.5% of their salary each month and the city contribution is 13%.[16]
