Two Bellingham School District Levy Replacement measures were on the February 14, 2012 ballot in the Bellingham school district area which is in Whatcom County.

Both measures were approved

The first measure sought to replace the current school levy which is set to expire with one set at a rate of $2.52 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a further four years in order to continue to pay for educational program and operational costs in the district.

The second measure sought to replace the current school technology levy which is set to expire with one set at a rate of $.60 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a further four years in order to continue to pay for technology upgrades and facility improvement costs in the district.[1]

Text of measure

The question on the ballot:

Proposition 1: The Board of Directors adopted Resolution #10-11 concerning educational funding. This proposition authorizes the District to levy the following excess taxes, to replace an expiring levy, on all taxable property within the District, to support the District’s educational programs and operations: Collection Years: 2013-2016; Approximate Levy Rate/$1,000 Assessed Value: $2.52, $2.59, $2.70, $2.82; Levy Amount: $28,000,000, $29,300,000, $30,600,000, $31,900,000. Should this proposition be approved?

Proposition 2: The Board of Directors of Bellingham School District No. 501 adopted Resolution #11-11 concerning a technology modernization levy. The proposition authorizes acquiring and applying technology, equipment, training, and other costs associated with District instruction and operations, and authorizes the following excess levies for such purposes on all taxable property within the District: Collection Years: 2013-2016; Approximate Levy Rate/$1,000 Assessed Value: $.50, $.60; Levy Amount: $5,500,000, $6,750,000. Should this proposition be approved?[3]
