Campaign themes

Hudson highlighted the following issues on his website:[4]

  • Jobs and the Economy

Hudson supports tax reform.

Excerpt: “I believe that an improved tax code will provide certainty for individuals and businesses as well as a stable and efficient source of revenue for essential government debt reduction, investments and services.  With debt levels at historic highs and threatening future economic stability, it is further imperative that tax reform create a pro-growth environment.”

  • Environment:

Hudson supports clean energy incentives.

Excerpt: “I am committed to working toward the establishment of clean energy incentives that encourage the private sector to develop and implement safe energy efficient technologies and reduce carbon emissions. I understand and recognize that our national security, the preservation of our environment and the revitalization of our economy depend on finding common-sense and safe energy solutions.”
  • Health Care:

Hudson supports improving healthcare and making it more affordable.

Excerpt:“As the husband of a clinical nurse, I am committed to the successful implementation of health care reforms that will expand access and affordability of coverage, improve quality and delivery of care and slow the rate of growth in health care spending. While much progress has been made in these areas, I believe there are still opportunities that remain.”
  • Education:

Hudson will draw on his teaching experience to help educators provide students with a quality education by implementing proven ideas and strategies.

Excerpt: "As an educator I firmly believe that well-educated students are the foundation for a strong workforce, globally competitive businesses, and sustainable economic growth. Every student deserves a first-rate education that equips them with the tools and skills to compete and succeed in the global economy. Ben also believes that by working together, we can fix elements of our education system that do not work, strengthen our schools by embracing ideas that have proven successful, reward excellence and improve the effectiveness of our teachers and principals."
  • Veterans:

Hudson will draw on his military experience to help improve the quality of life for those who have served.

Excerpt:"I will be a tireless advocate for our men and women who proudly wore the uniform by fighting to increase funding for health care, housing assistance, new VA clinics throughout the district, and for more accountability. I will also work with my colleagues from both political parties in Congress and the White House to protect education benefits, expand employment assistance, and reduce wait times for veterans with pending claims - our troops deserve better."
  • Seniors:

Hudson will protect Social Security and Medicare.

Excerpt:"Medicare and Social Security are just two of the promises that 5th District seniors have earned, and we deserve to have these vital programs protected – end of discussion. In Congress, I will stand up to protect the Social Security and Medicare benefits that 5thDistrict seniors have earned over a lifetime of hard work, working to strengthen and preserve these and other critical programs for seniors today and for future retirees."
