Bill Savage was a 2014 Republican candidate for District 59 of the Wisconsin State Assembly.[1]

Campaign themes

Savage's website has emphasized the following campaign themes:[2]

  • Creating jobs in Wisconsin: I believe we need to provide a stable economic environment with low taxes across the board as opposed to a one-time tax reduction.
  • Minimum Wage: Raising the minimum wage will cost Wisconsin jobs.
  • School Choice: I believe our students and families are served best when offered an entire menu of options including choice and charter schools.
  • Common Core Standards: I believe that schools should be controlled locally, not by a federal bureaucracy.
  • Education: I believe that the school funding formula should be changed; we are overfunding some areas of the state while other areas struggle.
  • Welfare Reform: I believe that our extensive welfare benefit system has removed the incentive to work. We don’t mind providing temporary assistance to those who have experienced a set-back but the permanent life-style of living off the government has to stop.
  • Drug Testing: Most truck drivers, many office and factory workers and now even some high school athletes are subject to drug testing. I believe that welfare recipients should also be drug tested.[3]
