One seat on the Brandywine School District school board was up for general election on May 13, 2014. Incumbent Cheryl Siskin ran unopposed and won the Nominating District G seat by default without an election.

Brandywine School District is located in New Castle County, Delaware
Brandywine School District is located in New Castle County, Delaware. The county seat of New Castle County is Wilmington. According to the United States Census Bureau, New Castle County is home to 538,479 residents.[1] Brandywine School District is the third-largest school district in Delaware, serving 10,852 students during the 2012-2013 school year.[2]

Demographics

New Castle County outperformed in comparison to the rest of Delaware in terms of higher education achievement in 2010. The United States Census Bureau found that 28.6 percent of New Castle County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 28.5 percent for Delaware as a whole. The median household income in New Castle was $54,236 compared to $60,119 for the state of Delaware. The poverty rate in New Castle County was 12.5 percent compared to 11.5 percent for the entire state.[1]

Note: The United States Census Bureau considers "Hispanic or Latino" to be a place of origin, not a race. Therefore, the Census allows citizens to report both their race and that they are from a "Hispanic or Latino" place of origin simultaneously. As a result, the percentages in each column of the racial demographics table will exceed 100 percent. Each column will add up to 100 percent after removing the "Hispanic or Latino" place of origin percentages.[3]

Method of board member selection

The Brandywine School Board consists of seven members elected to five-year terms in separate geographic districts. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on May 13, 2014.[4] The Nominating District G seat was on the ballot in 2014. Two seats will be on the ballot in 2015, and one seat will be on the ballot in 2016.[5]

Candidates began to file affidavits of candidacy on February 5, 2014. The filing deadline for school board candidates to get on the ballot in the general election was March 7, 2014.[6]
