Brian J. Bushweller is a Democratic member of the Delaware State Senate, representing District 17. He was first elected to the chamber in 2008.

Bushweller earned his A.A. from Ulster County Community College, his B.A. from Oklahoma City University and his M.A. from Stanford University. Bushweller worked as the state director for U.S. Senator Tom Carper, secretary of the Delaware Department of Public Safety, legislative liaison for Governor Tom Carper and the Teacher Union field representative.

The signature-filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was July 8, 2014. Incumbent Brian J. Bushweller was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Kim E. Bushweller received 10,279 votes while Hutchison received 7,923 votes.[7] Bushweller raised $97,214 for his campaign in 2008; Hutchison raised $92,562.[8]
