What was at stake?

Two seats in Zone 2 and an at-large position were up for election on September 17, 2013. Board Secretary Jeffrey Alan Williams was unopposed for the Zone 2 position on the School Board.

The district is in the first year of implementing a school choice program approved by the state legislature. The Arkansas State Legislature passed the Public School Choice Act of 2013, which went into effect on April 16, 2013. This law allows parents to select from a broader menu of area schools for their children.[3] The district is a participant in the program and allows parents from other districts to apply for enrollment to Springdale schools.[4]
