Brian Tarbet (b. June 7, 1949, in Logan, UT) is the former interim Republican Attorney General of Utah. Tarbet was appointed to the position by Governor Gary Herbert (R), taking office on December 3, 2013, to replace John Swallow (R), who resigned.[1] Tarbet was relieved of his interim office by Sean D. Reyes (R) on December 30, 2013.[2]

Tarbet was vying to permanently take over the post. He was one of three finalists chosen by the Utah Republican Central Committee. The names were sent to Gov. Herbert, who chose Reyes, Swallow's 2012 primary opponent, to serve as Swallow's replacement until a special election can be held in November 2014.[3][4]
