Brooklyn Heights Village Charter Amendments, 7 (November 2011)
All seven measures were approved
There were seven charter amendment measures on the ballot dealing with council term limits, the salaries of council members, employment restriction on council members, scheduling meeting for the council, removing a sentence on the term limit of the Mayor, amending lanuage in the charter in regards to the clerk and lastly clarifying initiative petition rules.
Text of measure
The question on the ballot:
|Shall Article II, Sections 2.02 (a), 2.02 (c), 2.05 (c ), 2.08 (d), 2.11, 3.06 (b), 9.01, 9.02 (b) of the Charter of the Village of Brooklyn Heights be amended to provide that Village Council shall be composed of five (5) members; three (3) council members shall be elected at the November 2011 election pursuant to the existing charter; the two (2) council members not elected at that time shall continue until the next regular Village election, November 2013 as defined in Section 7.01; in the event of council vacancies a majority action of council may appoint additional members to raise the membership to three (3); three (3) members of council shall constitute a quorum; affirmative vote of four (4) Council members shall be required for adoption of an emergency ordinance; an affirmative vote of four (4) members of Council declare the office of Mayor vacant; amendments to this charter may be framed and proposed by ordinance of Village Council passed by four (4) affirmative votes; and the Charter Review Commission shall have seven (7) members?|
