Cara A. Valente-Compton
|New Mexico House of Representatives District 19|
|Bachelor's||University of New Mexico (2010)|
This is Valente-Compton's first run for political office.
Valente-Compton earned a BP in political science from the University of New Mexico. She is currently pursuing a J.D. from the University of New Mexico, with an expected graduation of 2014.
She began working as a political consultant in 1988.
Valente-Compton describes her political philosophy as follows:
"I am a very liberal, progressive Democrat. I hope to restore tax equity to the New Mexico business community by closing the "box store loop hole" which permits large corporations to operate without paying a profit tax, while NM small businesses struggle to pay their fare share. I will fight for my friends in the gay community to ensure that they have marriage equality. I will work to improve access to quality health care in New Mexico. Most of all I promise to elevate the tone in Santa Fe, and put an end to the partisan bickering that is holding back our state."
Valente-Compton ran in the 2012 election for New Mexico House of Representatives District 19. She was defeated by incumbent Sheryl M. Williams-Stapleton in the Democratic primary on June 5, 2012. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.
