Carolyn Dumaresqu is the current acting Pennsylvania Secretary of Education.[1] Serving in this role since August 26, 2013, she was named to fill the vacancy left following William E. Harner's resignation. Dumaresq was serving as the department's executive deputy secretary at the time.[2]

Dumaresq agreed to lead the department until Gov. Corbett's term expires in 2014. She said she planned to give up the job in order to have more time to show her dogs at competitions, teach dog obedience classes and volunteer at no-kill shelters.[3]

Dumaresqu has a long history of experience in public education. Immediately prior to her appointment, she was serving as Executive Deputy Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Elementary and Secondary Education in the Pennsylvania Department of Education.[1]

Beginning her career as a math teacher, Dumaresqu went on to teach at the college level at Temple and Penn State universities. Among the many other roles she has serve in, Dumaresqu has been Executive Director of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and President of the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators.[4]
