2018

The following issues were found on Countryman's campaign website. For a full list of issues, click here.

Ethics Reform
Ethics violations have become a growing comcern in Alabama. This truth can clearly be seen due to the ethical breakdown that Alabama went through in 2016 to 2017 when rhe states top 3 elected officials were all investigated for violating the states ethics laws.

Crime Prevention
Christopher is in favor of;

  • In favor of expanding current hate crime laws providing more protections for individuals who could become victims of hate crimes based on their race, religion, gender, sexual orientation and disability.
  • In favor of laws that increase the severity of any offence where an adult recruits any juvenile to commit hate crimes. This includes using juveniles as recruiting tools to attract other juveniles.
  • In favor of providing alternative forms of punishment and corrections for individuals convicted of non violent crimes. Options would include rehabilitation centers, short term treatment facilities and court supervised house arrest.

Law Enforcement Accountability

  • In favor of publicly recognizing and rewarding law enforcement personnel who excel in their field, and who demonstrate the ability to protect and serve without prejudice.
  • In favor of requiring more oversight during state investigations of any city, county or state law enforcement agency where a complaint for misconduct, unnecessary use of force or discrimination has taken place.
  • In favor of decriminalizing marijuana for medical use under the close supervision of a doctor who is a specialist in this field. This would involve the close oversight of the state regarding the production, distribution, and taxing of medical marijuana. Individuals growing marijuana for private use would still be a violation of the law.
  • In favor of studying recreational legalization of marijuana. This includes research into creating testing equipment for field sobriety test to determine if someone is under the influence of marijuana while operating a motor vehicle.
  • In favor of providing alternative forms of punishment and corrections for less severe juvenile offences. Options would include rehabilitation centers, group homes for juveniles, short term treatment facilities and court supervised house arrest.
  • In favor of juvenile prohibition programs that have community service projects that provide home improvement and maintenance services to low income housing communities.
  • In favor of a citizens second amendment right to purchase and own firearm.
  • In favor of laws requiring mental health background checks for citizens prior to the purchase of a firearm.
  • In favor of laws requiring any citizen who owns a firearm to own a state approved firearm safe, vault or firearm lock to secure their firearms when not on their person. This would apply if they have any minor children living with them in their home. Approved firearm safes, vaults and locks could consist of any storage unit or securing apparatus that has been approved by the state.
  • In favor of researching the development of bio-metric identification technology to be used in firearm manufacturing. The bio-metric identification technology would allow only the owner of the firearm to possess the ability to discharge the firearm.
  • In favor of additional funding to the National Guard in order to increase security at recruiting stations.

Education System Reform
Education System Reform Alabama has struggled over the years to provide our students with a quality education that adequately prepares them for an ever-changing economic landscape. Many politicians have continued proposing budget cuts to the states education fund to pay for many non-essential programs and excessively wasteful spending by our government. Budget cuts to Alabama’s education fund is never a solution when it comes to our students future and their education

Low income families have also struggled to further their educations at colleges or universities due to excessively high, and usually unobtainable tuition costs. This travisty is made worse when colleges continue to offer expensive scholarships to highschool sports stars while ignoring many students who exhibit incredible academic potential but are unable to experience their potential because of their difficulties paying the high tuition costs.

Our graduating students can not be expected to compete in today’s challenging job market if they dont have the education and resources needed to succeed.

Christopher is in favor of:

  • In favor of providing more incentives for teachers, administrators, and schools where students meet or exceed the national average.
  • In favor of increased funding for science and math education within middle schools and high schools.
  • In favor of providing more college scholarships for students who excel at Math and Science in public schools.
  • In favor of laws requiring more oversight into the state’s educational system and educational budget.
  • In favor of using students, who are a part of a state rehabilitation program (see Crime Prevention), to assist in the janitorial and maintenance duties in selected school districts. This would be part of a supervised community service program within the juvenile justice system.
  • This would assist in revitalizing schools that are in need of extra care and maintenance that are lacking due to budget restraints.
  • This would assist in providing at risk students with essential skills that could assist them in the job market.[2]
