The city of Chula Vista, California held elections for mayor and city council on June 3, 2014. A runoff election for races in which a single candidate failed to receive a majority in the elections on June 3 took place on November 4, 2014.[1] The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 7, 2014.[2][3]

Including the mayor's office, three of the five city council seats were up for election. The only incumbent was District 2 council member Patricia Aguilar. In the mayoral race, Mayor Cheryl Cox was ineligible to run due to term limits. In District 1, council member Rudy Ramirez was also ineligible to run because of term limits.

Though candidates cited jobs, public safety and urban development as key issues in Chula Vista's 2014 election cycle, two particularly critical themes were the questions of who can bring a four-year university to the city and who can revitalize the Chula Vista bay front.[4]
