This measure sought to increase the current school levy by a rate of $.97 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a further ten years which would go towards the district's sinking fund which is used to help pay for building facility repairs as needed.[2]

The question on the ballot:

SShall the limitation on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property in Coldwater Community Schools, Branch County, Michigan, be increased by and the board of education be authorized to levy not to exceed .9744 mill ($0.9744 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for a period of 10 years, 2011 to 2020, inclusive, to continue to provide for a sinking fund for the purchase of real estate for sites for, and the construction or repair of, school buildings (this is a renewal of millage which expired with the 2010 tax levy); the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2011 is approximately $764,165?[3]
