Colorado Springs Charter Amendment Question (April 2011)
This measure was approved
- YES 44,353 (52.74%)
- NO 39,745 (47.26%)
This measure sought to amend the city charter so as to make it that six of the nine council members would be elected from districts and the remaining three would be at large positions. Since this was approved, this will be implemented in the April 2013 municipal elections. Proponents of district representation noted that the council member elected from a certain area will have better direct knowledge of residents and businesses and the city has grown far larger so that at large is now too broad. Different areas of the city also have different views and agendas so on the council there would be a wider variety of members.
