Columbia and Maury County Consolidation
There is a effort currently for a Columbia and Maury County Consolidation referendum in Maury County.
This would be the second attempt to consolidate the two governments in less than 10 years. Currently a petition is being circulated that would create a joint city and county committee which would then create a charter for the new consolidated government. Those that support this measure say that it would cut back on duplicated services in the area and would save taxpayers money. There are a lot of issues that would be associated with the creation of a metro government, county commissioners are urging residents to know what they sign before they do so. Although not all metro governments are alike, there are enough similarities that Maury county can look at others and see how their process would generally go if it got to that point.
