There was a Country Rural Library District Tax Proposition on the November 3 ballot in Whatcom County for voters in the Rural Library District area.

This proposition will raise the property taxes on houses in the district by $.11, making it $.44 on assessed value of a home. This will enable the operation of the libraries within the district. There is no year limit on the tax.[2]

"WHATCOM COUNTY RURAL LIBRARY DISTRICT PROPOSITION NO. 1 LEVY FOR LIBRARY OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE The Whatcom County Rural Library District Board of Trustees adopted Resolution No. 06/16/09-08 concerning property taxes for community libraries. This proposition would enable the District to operate and maintain its community libraries and library services by increasing its property tax levy rate from the current rate of $0.338 per $1,000 of assessed valuation to $0.44 per $1,000 of assessed valuation for collection in 2010, as allowed by chapter 84.55 RCW.
