Solberg worked in Regional Sales for Park Broadcasting from 1969 to 1974. He then worked as Regional Manager for Cargill Incorporated from 1974 to 1976. From 1976 to 1982, he was manager of Southern Minnesota Broadcasting. He has been the President of Drillstring Dynamics Sensor Sales and Marketing since 1983.
Solberg joined the South Dakota State House of Representatives in 2009. He served in that position until 2011, representing the 11th District. Solberg is divorced and has two children.
