He is not to be confused with David L. Williams, who is a member of the Kentucky State Senate.

Williams lost to incumbent Brett Guthrie. Williams ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Kentucky's 2nd District. Williams ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. He was defeated by incumbent Brett Guthrie (R) and also faced Craig Astor (L), and Andrew R. Beacham (I) in the general election on November 6, 2012.
In 2007, David Williams was arrested for menacing his niece, a Glasglow City clerk. He previously ran for the position of Agricultural Commissioner. Williams' profile at the Washington Times describes him as a "well known perennial candidate."
