David O'Connell (b. June 3, 1940) is a Democratic member of the North Dakota State Senate, representing District 6. He was first elected to the chamber in 1988. O'Connell is currently Senate Minority Leader.

O'Connell served in the North Dakota House of Representatives from 1983 to 1988.

Biography

O'Connell earned his A.A. from Minot State University-Bottineau in 1960. He has worked as an operating engineer, airfield clearing operator and engineering aide. O'Connell has been President of North Central Electric from 1980 to present. He has also been the Director of SunPrairie Grain since 1990.

O'Connell ran in the 2012 election for North Dakota Senate District 6. O'Connell ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on June 12. He defeated Pamela Smith in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2]
