Turknett ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Louisiana's 1st District. Turknett faced M.V. Mendoza (D), incumbent Steve Scalise (R), Gary King (R), and Arden Wells (I) in the November 6 blanket primary.[1] Louisiana does not hold a primary before the November 6 general election. If candidates do not receive a majority of the vote on that date, they go to a runoff, to be held on December 8.
