Debra H. Jones is a judge for the Alabama Circuit 7 Seat 3. Her term began on January 19, 2011.[1][2]


Before joining the court, Jones was in the private practice of law for 20 years.[3]

Jones ran for an open seat on the Alabama Supreme Court in 2012. She was defeated by Tommy Bryan in the Republican primary on March 13, receiving 34.8 percent of the vote.[4][5][6]

2010 election

Jones faced incumbent Democrat R.J. Laird in the November 2 general election, earning 57.77 percent of the votes to Laird's 42.23%.[2] Originally, Jones ran in a special election for the Alabama House District 40. After being defeated in the primary, she decided that, "I feel I can serve the people of Calhoun and Cleburne Counties better as a judge."[3]
