Campaign themes

2011

Drake's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[2]

  • Creating Jobs & Economic Security: "I will oppose raising taxes on business or individuals and will work to foster an environment that attracts new industry to Alabama because nothing boosts the economy like new jobs. I will also work to help existing businesses stay afloat during these tough times through tax incentives."
  • Stopping New Taxes: "It is my commitment to you that I will never support new taxes. Instead, I will insist that government live within its means, just like you and me."
  • Stopping Federal Government Intrusion: "I support efforts to invoke the Tenth Amendment of the US Constitution, which provides that any powers not specifically granted to the federal government are reserved to the states. Decisions that affect the personal lives of people should be made at the local level, not by bureaucrats in Washington."
  • Bolstering Public Education: "In order to prepare the next generation for competition in the global market, it must be superiorly-educated in relevant subject matter, utilizing the newest technology available."
  • Reviving Integrity in Government: "I support efforts to improve our transportation system by visionary thinking and addressing the areas of critical need first. I don’t think road projects should be a pork-barrel process planned in smoke-filled rooms by politicians."
