The Board of Education was disbanded by the The District of Columbia Public Education Reform Amendment Act of 2007. The D.C.P.S. (District of Columbia Public Schools) was then placed under the jurisdiction of Mayor Adrian Fenty.[1][2][3] Chancellor Michelle Rhee has stated that taking having one clear point of accountability and not having to go through a political bureaucracy is crucial to gains in education reform.[4]
