Domenic Recchia is a 2014 Democratic and Working Families Party candidate seeking election to the U.S. House representing the 11th Congressional District of New York. Recchia ran unopposed for both nominations in the primary on June 24, 2014.[1]

Recchia served as a New York City Council member from 2002 to 2013, representing southern Brooklyn.[2][3]


After graduating law school, Recchia returned to Brooklyn, and in 1989 was elected to the Community Board 13. In that same year, Recchia was elected to Community School Board 21, where he served until 2001.[4] The following year, on January 1, 2002, Recchia became a member of the New York City Council and served as the Chair of the Council’s Finance Committee.[5]

Recchia is running in the 2014 election for the U.S. House to represent New York's 11th District. Recchia ran unopposed for the Democratic and Working Families Party nominations in the primary on June 24, 2014. The general election takes place November 4, 2014. If elected, he would be first congressman from the Staten Island-based district since 1906 not to have a Staten Island address.[6]

Recchia is a member of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's Jumpstart program, which is designed to provide early support to top-tier Democratic challengers.[7] Roll Call named the race one of the top five to watch in the Northeast.[8]

In February 2014, a video surfaced of Recchia calling for "Barack Obama Dynasty."[9]

Recchia has three daughters with his wife, Kim. Recchia was raised and resides in Brooklyn, New York.[5] He has had several liens levied against him, including one in 2010 for property he co-owns with his wife.[18]
