Donna M. Jones (b. January 14, 1939), a Republican, was the Idaho Controller from January 1, 2007 to October 15, 2012.[1]

In May 2012, Jones suffered serious injuries in a car accident and Gov. Butch Otter temporarily appointed Chief Deputy Controller Brandon Woolf to lead the office until she recoverd.[2] However, Jones decided to resign on October 15, 2012, after it was learned that her recovery could take up to two years. Woolf was then appointed to the position on a permanent basis.[3]


Jones has been owner and operator of an auto parts stores as well as a real estate broker. She began her political career in 1980 as a state committeewoman. Jones would later be appointed twice to serve in the Idaho House of Representatives, first in 1987 and then again in 1990. In 1994, she was elected to the House and served until 1998. Jones was elected Idaho Controller in 2006.[1]

Political career

Idaho Controller (2007-2012)

Jones served as Idaho Controller from January 1, 2007 until her resignation on October 15, 2012. Her term was not slated to end until January 2015.

Car accident

On May 25, 2012, Jones suffered severe injuries in a single-vehicle rollover car crash, including a broken back. On July 3, Gov. Butch Otter temporarily appointed Chief Deputy Controller Brandon Woolf to lead the office. Woolf took over permanently on October 15, 2012.[4]

Idaho House of Representatives (multiple terms)

Jones was first appointed to the Idaho House of Representatives to replace Mike Strasser in District 13 on April 20, 1987 and served until 1990. Jones was then appointed in January 1990 to replace Mary Hartung in District 10, serving until 1992. Jones was elected to the House in 1994 and served until 1998.[1]
