Libla won election in the 2012 election for Missouri State Senate, District 25. State House incumbent Billy Pat Wright initially declared to run in the GOP primary but he withdrew from the race on May 21, 2012, choosing instead to retire.[1] Libla defeated House District 16 incumbent Terry Swinger (D) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3]
