Early voting began this Tuesday, June 12, in Utah. Polling places will remain open every weekday through June 22. The primary is scheduled for June 26, 2012.
State elections director for Lieutenant Governor Greg Bell expects voter turnout will be between 20 and 25 percent. This is significantly higher than the average 10 to 15 percent.
Thomas said, "We have more big races this time, like races for the U.S. Senate, the [Salt Lake] county mayor and the attorney general... Those campaigns are spending a lot of money to get people to vote, and it helps remind people about the election."
