AnEast Alton & Wood River Schools Consolidation Question was on the April 5, 2011 ballot in the school districts of East Alton and Wood River Elementary as well as East Alton-Wood River High school which are in Madison County.

This measure was defeated[1]

This question was asked in the three school district areas if they should consolidate the school districts into one larger district. Proponents noted that consolidation would reduce costs in the district as well as better align elementary programs to high school curriculum. Opponents though noted that the districts were fine as they are now and if consolidation would have occurred more research should be undertaken before it was implemented. Previous consolidations made throughout the state left these districts untouched leading to further support for consolidating them now.[2]
