There was a Eau Claire County Jail Referendum Question on the April 6 ballot in Eau Claire County.

Option 1 was approved

  • Option 1 11,250 (79.1%)Approveda
  • Option 2 2,973[1]

This measure gave voters two options on where to build a new county jail, either by the current courthouse and just remodel the courthouse to suit the new jail or the other option is to build the new jail, and a justice facility including sheriff office and courts, at another location designated to be by highway 93 and 94 or in River Prairie. This question was just an advisory question, meaning whatever the voters decide is not binding, the county commission just wanted to get resident's opinions on where they think the new jail should be. It is estimated to be around $59 million for the downtown option and $110 for the offsite option.[2]
