House Committees

The Education Committee is a standing committee of the Arkansas State Senate.

Per the Senate Rules, committees of the Arkansas State Senate are assigned by seniority. Starting with the most senior member, every senator chooses a committee. Once the most junior senator has choosen, everyone selects again in the same order. The President of the Senate then appoints additional senators to any committees with less than eight members.[1] If a replacement senator is elected by special election, the incoming senator assumes any committee responsibilities of the previous senator, but cannot serve as a Chairperson or Vice-Chairperson.[2] Committees are assigned at the start of each legislative session.[3] It is not stated what constitutes a committee's quorum. The President is not recognized as an "ex officio" member of any committee.
