Edwin Mah Lee (b. May 5, 1952) is the current Mayor of San Francisco, California. He was first appointed by the Board of Supervisors on January 11, 2011, to serve out the remainder of former mayor Gavin Newsom's term, after Newsom resigned to take office as Lieutenant Governor of California. He was elected to serve a full term on November 8, 2011. Lee is the first Asian-American Mayor in San Francisco history.[1]

Biography

Lee was born in Seattle, Washington. He holds a B.A. from Bowdoin College and a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. His professional experience includes working as the Managing Attorney for the San Francisco Asian Law Caucus and holding several positions within the city government of San Francisco, including City Administrator, Director of the Department of Public Works, Director of the City Purchasing Department, Director of the Human Rights Commission, Whistleblower Ordinance Investigator and Deputy Director of Employment Relations.[1]

Elections

2015

The city of San Francisco, California will hold elections for mayor on November 3, 2015. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election is not yet announced.[2]

2011

Lee was elected on November 8, 2011. At the time of the 2011 municipal elections, he was still the interim Mayor of San Francisco.[3]
