El Segundo Transfer of Fire Protection Service to Los Angeles County Ordinance, Measure P (April 2012)
If Measure P had been approved, it would have upheld an ordinance of the El Segundo City Council to "transfer all functions of the El Segundo Fire Department to the Consolidated Fire Protection District of Los Angeles County."
Measure P's defeat means that the operations of the El Segundo Fire Department will stay under the immediate control of the city government.
- Election results are from the City of El Segundo's election office as of 4:15 a.m. on April 13, 2012
Text of measure
The question on the ballot:
|Measure P: "Shall the ordinance amending El Segundo Municipal Code to transfer all functions of the El Segundo Fire Department to the Consolidated Fire Protection District of Los Angeles County (aka the Los Angeles County Fire Department) be adopted?"|
Path to the ballot
Measure P was an initiated city ordinance. It earned a spot on the ballot because the El Segundo Firefighters' Union collected signatures to qualify it for the ballot. The El Segundo Firefighters' Union opposed the city council's move to transfer the city's fire protection to the county.
