RALEIGH, North Carolina: Ellie Kinnaird (D) resigned from the North Carolina State Senate earlier this month after having served in the chamber since 1997.
Kinnaird said she resigned following frustration with the direction of state government. In particular, she objected to the new state voter ID law that was signed earlier in August.
Now that she is no longer a state senator, Kinnaird said she plans to help citizens obtain state photo IDs so that they can meet the new regulations.
A new state senator will be appointed on September 8 by party officials.
