Berkowitz is owner of the Nunatak Limited Liability Company and has been an private practice attorney since 1994. Prior to that he worked as an Enforcement Officer with the United States Antarctic Program and an Assistant District Attorney of Anchorage.
Berkowitz earned his J.D. from the University of California Hastings College of the Law, M.A. in Philosophy/Polar Studies from Cambridge University, and AB in Government/Economics from Harvard College.
Berkowitz defeated Hollis French in the August 24 primary by a margin of 46.64% to 38.88%. He faced Sean Parnell (R), William S. "Billy" Toien (L), and Donald R. Wright (Alaskan Independence) in the November 2 general election.
