Florida Democrats don't buy the RNC answer on voter-caging concerns
The Florida Democratic Party is joining a legal challenge against the RNC claiming that a "gimmick" fundraising letter was actually an attempt to engage in voter caging. The RNC sent out an unknown number of official-looking "party affiliation voter registration cards" to Democratic voters asking them to re-register to vote.
The strategy alleged by the Democratic party is for the Republican to collect the "return to sender" notice on a returned envelope and then try to use it as evidence to challenge the voter when they show up at the polls.
Denial of allegations
Florida Republican Party spokeswoman Erin VanSickle said the claims were unfounded.
“This is a bogus lawsuit and an attempt to distract voters from the real issues by throwing in everything but the kitchen sink six days out from Election Day...The facts are clear and we have already addressed them thoroughly: the mailer in question is not a Republican Party of Florida mail piece, plain and simple. It is a Republican National Committee fundraising mailer to which the Republican Party of Florida has absolutely no connection." VanSickle wrote.
